The bathroom – a hidden risk zone in the home
How to disinfect it safely and protect your health
At first glance, the bathroom and toilet often look clean. Research shows, however, that this is precisely where large numbers of microorganisms hide, posing a threat to health – especially for children, the elderly, and people with weakened immunity.
What are the risks in the bathroom?
Moulds and yeasts
Up to 63% of toothbrush holders and 27% of toilet seats are contaminated.
Faecal bacteria
Almost a third of toothbrush holders contain faecal bacteria.
Staphylococci, HPV, herpes viruses
Commonly present in bathrooms and shower enclosures.
Biofilm
A resistant film of microorganisms that protects bacteria from removal.
How to maintain your bathroom properly
- After every shower, wipe surfaces dry and ventilate for at least 30 minutes.
- Limit prolonged running of very hot water.
- Regularly wash shower curtains, bath mats, washcloths, and gloves.
How often to disinfect
Completely disinfect the bath, shower enclosure, washbasin, toilet, and toothbrush holders at least once a week. In households with children, the elderly, or sick family members, we recommend more frequent disinfection of critical areas.
