A zoonosis is a disease transmitted from animals to humans. More than 200 different zoonoses are known today. They can be caused by viruses, bacteria, moulds, yeasts, and parasites. Sources of infection include domestic and farm animals, wildlife, and frequently the contaminated environment as well.
